Sunspots, AKA solar lentigos, are a form on epidermal pigmentation caused by the environmental stress of sun exposure known as photo ageing.
This causes darker spots of pigmentation to be present on the surface of the skin and can be chronic. These spots can be treated by topical skincare, lifestyle changes and in clinic treatments.
What do we recommend to help with sunspots?
We would always recommend applying an SPF daily and also the use of other sun protective measures to prevent the reoccurrence and exacerbation of these spots.
Other than that you can use topical skincare and clinic treatments to target spots. The use of an antioxidant such as a Vitamin C can aid in the appearance of pigmentation as well as using something like a vitamin B3 which acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor to regulate pigment production.

What treatments we recommend to help with sunspots?
There are multiple treatments available for sunspots including peels, lasers and cryotherapy. A peel such as the biorepeel works to manually exfoliate the surface of the skin which can alleviate the symptoms of epidermal pigmentation, it also causes cells within the top layer of the skin to move quicker through the skin to reduce the amount of pigment being deposited.
Laser therapy can be used to remove sunspots by targeting high density pigment and causing it to slough away.
Lastly cryotherapy can be used to create and wound and manually destroy pigmented skin in an area, helping to lighten pigment. These treatments can be considered due to downtime and amount of treatments required. As mentioned, these can be chronic and without proper maintenance and sun protection, these spots will return.
